Definition of network :

A network is a set of devices/nodes connected by media links. Media means communication channels. These devices may be computer, mobile, printer etc.

Number of Users: More users on a network slow the connection.
Transmission Speed: Transmission speed is that data will be transmitted. It is measured in bits per second (bps).
Media Type: Media is the connection between two nodes. It can be different types.
Hardware Type: Slow computers such as XT or fast such as Pentiums.
Software Program: How good is the network operating system written.

2. Reliability : Reliability is that how the network is useable.
3. Security : Security is protect the device or nodes from any unauthorized activities.

Types of connection :

1. Point to point connection :
Dedicated links between two devices

Advantages of multipoint connection over point-to-point connection:

  2. easy to install
  3. reliability
  4. easy to add more users

Computer networks help in many ways as it is mentioned below :
File sharing : Network help the users to share data file to other device /devices.
Hardware sharing : Users not only share software documents but also can share devices such as printers, scanners etc. Without devices sharing is impossible.
Networking gaming: Now-a-days multiple player games are so popular in teenagers. This occurs through network and also allow multiple of users to play the games from different locations.. Such game is like PUB-G.
User Communication : Networks allow users to connect with each other using Email service, newsgroups, vedio etc.
Application sharing: Applications can be shared over the network and this allow to implement client.

Advantage of network :

  2. Makes file sharing easier.
  3. It is an inexpensive system.
  4. It increases cost efficiency.
  5. It is highly flexible.
  6. It increases storage capacity.
  7. It allows for more advantageous resource sharing.

Disadvantage of network :

  1. It requires expensive set up.
  2. It lacks Independence.
  3. It poses security difficulties.
  4. It pisses robustness.

Components of Data communication system :

There are generally five components in a data communication system. They are as mentioned below :
1. Message: Message is the information that is to be sent/transmitted.
2. Sender : Sender is the device that sends/transmits data.
example :Computer, mobile etc
3. Receiver:  Receiver is the device that receives data.
4. Transmission medium: Transmission medium is the path through which data is sent to the receiver.
example : Optical fibre, Satellite links etc.
5. Protocol: Protocol is the set of rules that is followed by the data communication. Without protocols two devices can be connected. But no information can be shared. These are used to simplify timely and maintain communication among multiple devices with different configurations.
